After the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University set a policy to develop the institution into a leading medical center in Asia, the design competition for the “Ramathibodi Sri Ayutthaya Medical Center” was organized to provide health care, disease prevention, and specialized treatment services in accordance with international standards. The winners were announced on May 11, 2021.
This competition not only posed a challenging brief with a highly complex building program, but it also attracted as many as 100 design studios, eventually being narrowed down to 5 teams. These five concepts are infused with a spirit of “giving” and offer innovative perspectives on developing the Ramathibodi Sri Ayutthaya Medical Center into a facility that is fully operational within the set requirements and constraints.
From designing buildings that are energy-efficient and modern, to creating flexible spaces that can adapt over time, meeting JCT standards, and enhancing the building through creative ideas while maximizing the limited land area—the five finalist design teams have tackled the challenges in intriguing and innovative ways.
